In 1703, a bestselling book captured the radical conversations between the Baron de Lahontan and Kondiaronk, a visionary Wendat (Huron) leader and philosopher, in the Canadian Eastern Woodlands. Their exchanges on freedom, justice, and equality shook Europe, fueling Enlightenment thought and the emergence of modern democracy. The cinematic narration revives these dialogues—interwoven with contemporary reflections and the story of Émilie, a rebellious 18th-century Genevan woman—revealing how Indigenous ideas helped shape democratic ideals that remain urgent today.
